The Star newspaper - Opinion Section - Importance of grammatically correct english in media release

ORIGINAL VERSION

Importance of grammatically correct english in media release

I was reading through The Star Online on an article entitled "Our citizens abroad are a patriotic lot; dated Saturday February 5, 2011", when the following sentence caught my attention.

You can gain experience by working overseas (after the studies), but ultimately we hope you will be return to work in Malaysia."

I am not sure if the statement is genuinely uttered by our Prime Minister or mistake done by the journalist covering the event.

Essentially, grammatical mistake either on e-news or hardcopy should be addressed in subsequent press releases.

One thing's for sure, The Star newspaper is looked up upon by its contemporaries and rivals alike. Millions of readers read and absorb its news on daily basis.

As such, matters pertaining to press statement by our country's leaders should be vetted and proof read before its eventual release as it will not only affect the credibility of the newspaper but our nation's leaders as well.

Runaway by The Corrs

There are times in your life when you feel that you don’t have sufficient time even to breath. I’m sure each and every one of us would feel that every now and then.
With the latest hoohaa surrounding the couple who tortured their cute poodle (those are monsters I tell you; monsters with human as their physical front), which does not remotely linked to this post at all – to the endless list of troubles around the world; who doesn’t feel dejected right?

2012 is drawing near and to those who believes in apocalypse; better take hint because it’s already 28 Jan 2011 by the time I wrote this post and just bear in mind that yesterday’s date is 27 Jan 2011. A nice date if you ask me. :-)

Why am I writing incoherent and totally non-related thing here?

Well, no particular reason. I just feel like writing something. There are 1001 things to write or to do but I chose to write things, which doesn’t mean anything at all. The weather is fine by the way; so don’t go blaming the poor weather..hehe. Judging by the weather forecast splayed on the tv screen, I am 99% sure that the weather forecast presented over our terrestrial tv is not accurate at all. :-P

Anyway, while driving around, I stumbled upon an old song in my iPhone (gasp! I didn’t realize that I have that song too you know)… goodness gracious!!

The song is none other than “Runaway by The Corrs”.

I wonder what happened to that quartet consisting of handsome Irish guy and pretty Irish girls. At least this family band can sing, unlike some other family bands which I shall not name over here.

See, I’m deviating from my topic again. As I was saying, this song is hauntingly beautiful with goose bump inducing lyrics. Not only that, if you drive around with that song playing at the background, it is soothing as well. Goose bumpily soothing. :-P

Less talk from me from now onwards, let’s listen to this song, sing along to it or just savour the song as it is. :-)

Runaway by The Corrs
Say it's true, there's nothing like me and you
Not alone, tell me you feel it too
And I would runaway
I would runaway, yeah
I would runaway
I would runaway with you
.
(Chorus)
Cause I have fallen in love
With you, no never have
I'm never gonna stop falling in love, with you
.
Close the door, lay down upon the floor
And by candlelight, make love to me through the night
Cause I have runaway
I have runaway, yeah
I have runaway, runaway
I have runaway with you
.
(Chorus)
.
And I would runaway
I would runaway, yeah
I would runaway
I would runaway with you
.
(Chorus)

Flight Home (draft)

The hustle and bustle in the cabin interrupted his thoughts. Upping the volume of his mp3 player, he sunk deeper into his seat, cradling the book he reads closer to his chest as he pondered on the hours earlier when he stepped on the flight with light footed steps.

As the songs directory shuffled itself automatically, he heard a familiar tune. A tune which grabbed his attention the moment his ears heard it. It brought him a momentary sense of tranquility despite the din, his book is all but forgotten.

Smile appeared on his weary face as he shifted his thoughts on the welcoming sight of his loved ones back home. It never fail to bring tears to his eyes whenever such thoughts crossed his mind. He, a man considered to be the pillar of strength brought down and mellowed with such emotional effect?

Closing his eyes, patiently he waits, and he played the song repeatedly. Thoughts firmly on the smiling face with that pretty eyes of hers. Sleep overcame him with ease despite the uncomfortable surroundings.

Suddenly he is jolted from his slumber with the bump on the plane landing and patiently he waited until it came to a screeching halt. BlogBooster-The most productive way for mobile blogging. BlogBooster is a multi-service blog editor for iPhone, Android, WebOs and your desktop

On the final day of 2010

It's the time of the year again for all of us to reflect on the stuff we did the whole year. However, I won't dwell much on that cos that's what everyone will say and it gets kinda boring after some time :-P

So, I'll start this reflection of mine with review of an old movie which I haven't watched before. The movie is entitled "Marley & Me"..
Yup, I know it's an old movie but I hardly have time to watch movie these days :-S

Anyway, the most poignant part (and I daresay the saddest part) is when John held on to Marley's leg while whispering that he's the best dog and everything. Tears just rolled down my cheeks though I suspect it's due to leaky airplane ceiling :-P

What does movie review got to do with near year stuff?
Well, do read on then...

To me, the movie does not only reflect on the relationship between a dog and a man but it can also signify the losses and the immeasurable pain in our heart when we're apart from our loved ones. I won't dwell too much on this also. But on this year end celebration, please spare a thought for your loved ones no matter how far they are. Most importantly, keep them in your thoughts.

Just try your best to keep in touch and bridge the distance no matter how impossible it may sound.

Well ladies and gentlemen, with that, i would like to say Bye Bye 2010 and Hello 2011 :-)
